2010 Ryder Cup Captain Colin Montgomerie, double US Open Champion Retief Goosen, world no. 7 Paul Casey and no. 11 Ian Poulter are among the big names who took part in Golf LIVE, an innovative interactive golf event for players of all abilities at Stoke Park, Buckinghamshire, from Friday May 14th - Sunday 16th. Each golfing giant will be present on all three days, giving spectators a unique opportunity to meet, watch and learn from the very best in the game.
Montgomerie, a record eight-time European Tour Order of Merit winner, is the Golf LIVE Ambassador who hosted 'Monty’s Masterclass' four times a day at which visitors can join in a live and interactive golf lesson.
Casey, Goosen and Poulter where also on hand to host their own instructional theatres and will compete alongside some of the UK’s top celebrities and TV presenters, including Sky Sports' Di Stewart (left), in a series of 3-hole Pro-Celebrity Challenges. Top coaches, such as David Leadbetter and Denis Pugh, will offer expert tuition on all aspects of the game.
This event aimed at golfers of all ages and abilities, Golf LIVE provided a unique backstage insight into the glamorous world of Tour golf.
The Pro- Celeb 3 hole challenge proved to be a highlight, with the ever confident Vernon Kay pulling a spectacular duck hook of the 1st followed by DJ Spoony getting away with a little more sucsess making the right side of the fairway. The Number 6 in the world showed just how far removed the tour players are from the standard club golfer with shots shaped to perfection each and every time.
Other highlights of the day included the 10 and 21 year old single malt samples that seemed to never stop thanks to McCallen.
Along with the great Hog roasts that where spotted on entry and so good the trip had to be made for a second time later in the day.
All in all a great day out for both golf and non-golfers alike and plenty of interaction for children to enjoy, teamed up with blue sky’s and sunshine out for the weekend and I would presume that the event producers are more than happy, I no i am already looking forward to next years event and would love to see such a thing taking place over more courses throughout the year.
